Lumi Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 29, 2026

Lumi helps parents prepare for and respond to hard parenting moments. This policy explains what information Lumi handles, how it is used, and how to contact us about privacy choices.

Information you provide

Lumi may store a child nickname or initial, age, communication details, parenting situations, incident history, feedback on suggested strategies, notes, app settings, and other context you choose to enter. We recommend using a nickname or initial instead of a child's full legal name.

Voice input

If you use voice input, Lumi uses the microphone to capture what you say. Voice content may be processed to create a transcript and generate a response, and voice audio may be streamed through OpenAI Realtime during voice sessions.

How information is used

Lumi uses this information to generate Prepare and Help Now responses, organize recurring patterns, improve personalization inside the app, and create insights shown to you.

AI and backend processing

Before Lumi sends your first text or voice request for AI processing, the app asks for permission and explains that relevant typed situations, voice transcripts, feedback, history, and profile context may be sent to Lumi backend services. If you use voice, voice audio may be streamed through OpenAI Realtime. Lumi uses Cloudflare to host backend endpoints and OpenAI to generate AI responses and voice sessions. These providers process information only to provide app functionality, reliability, security, and abuse prevention. The OpenAI API key is kept server-side and is not stored in the app.

On-device storage

Lumi stores app data on your device using local app storage. If you delete the app, locally stored app data may be removed from the device according to iOS behavior.

Retention

Most app history is stored locally on your device. Backend request data and logs, if retained, are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security, debugging, reliability, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or to provide the requested AI service. Third-party providers may process and retain data according to their own service terms and policies.

Data sharing

Lumi does not sell your data. Lumi does not use your information for third-party advertising or tracking. Lumi shares information with service providers such as Cloudflare and OpenAI only as needed to operate the app.

Your choices

You can choose what information to enter, edit profile information, delete incidents in the app where available, deny microphone access, stop using voice input, or turn off AI data sharing in Profile > Privacy & Data. To request deletion of information handled by Lumi backend services, or to ask privacy questions, contact lumiabatool@gmail.com.

Children's information

Lumi is intended for use by parents or guardians. Parents should avoid entering unnecessary identifying information about children and should use a nickname or initial instead of a full legal name.

Consent and permission

Using Lumi is optional. The app asks for permission before sending your first text or voice request to backend or AI services, and you can withdraw that permission in Profile > Privacy & Data. Microphone access is controlled by iOS permission settings and can be revoked in Settings.

Not for emergencies

Lumi is not a crisis service, diagnostic tool, medical device, or replacement for professional medical, mental health, behavioral, or emergency care.
